Projects

We call the content made by our creators and collaborators "projects" as this word implies ongoing, creative and personal work. Our aim is to allow amateur queer comedians to express their voices and experiences freely, reflecting their individuality and imperfections. Therefore, this is not "content" (a structured and polished product as lifeless padding) and this is not "work" (the outcome of professional and intensive labour). This is, hopefully, a collection of ideas to be enjoyed and reflected on with the knowledge of the human intention, expression, and desire to capture a unique yet subjective outlook on the current world.

In other words: "content" is corporate; "projects" are art.

What is (a) Quickie?

The Queer Inclusive Comedy Ensemble (or QuICkiE for a really bad acronym) is an activist group aiming to destigmatise queer experiences and devalue queerphobia through a multitude of community-created comedy artefacts.

Queer activism is often seen as being emotional, tragic, difficult, and labour-intensive. Whilst these passionate displays are still respected and needed, the queer community also deserves a less overwhelming and depressing respite.

QUICKIE is a platform to communicate messages and lived experiences, still with an activist agenda, but through the medium of comedy (be it stand-up, poetry, skits, podcasts, comics or whatever). These will be short, about 5 minutes long, to be quick and easy to explore (and to appeal to the brain-rotted youth).

Furthermore, any queer person can submit their own original content (terms and conditions do apply though (sorry, boring we know)).

Anyway, now that is all said:

FAQs

  • Firstly, what self-respecting professional wants to do anything for free. Secondly, comedy is gatekeeped (intentionally or by convention) by "professional" people, those that have the time, money, and confidence to do so. Specifically, this applies to stand-up as the entry in to comedy circuits, including for queer groups. Unfortunately, this takes time (its recommended to do it twice a week to gain notability), expensive (for travel, entry tickets, and maybe one or seven drinks to calm the nerves), and completely ignores that many queer people do not have the luxury of being public. Therefore, QUICKIE is for the passionate creatives that, for whatever reason, can not compete in the industry but still have talent and messgaes to share.

  • We know the word "activist" can be alarming, as the news often portrays only the disruptive kind. However, activism is simply about sharing a personal and important message, and really all comedy that is about your experience is activism. By refelecting on your own experience and making jokes about it, you will be providing insight into queer lives while also devaluing queerphobia as being something so ridiculous and absurd it should be laughed at. QUICKIE aims to create a library of resources and projects all about being queer, in order to inspire, connect, and reassure other queer individuals.

  • Aside from enjoying all the other content that has been made, you can join and interact on our message pinboard. Its like Reddit but far safer and far less porn. To do this, create an account using the "Log In" button by the menus, then navigate to the "Groups" page, join whatever ones, and then feel free to post! (Terms and conditions apply, and bans are in place for those that break rules)
